West Virginia Hiking - Easy Adventure for Great Vacations

Kaymoor Mine Powder HouseHiking is a great way to explore the area around New River lodging cabins.  And a hike does not have to be a 10 mile grind up a mountain!  It can be a simple walk along a river on an old road bed.  Kids can find wildflowers and salamanders, spot birds and other critters, identify trees, kick leaves and be thoroughly entertained while parents relax and enjoy the antics and the scenery.

Several great trails can be founding in the vicinity of the Canyon Rim Visitor Center.  One is the Kaymoor Trail, which follows an old road about halfway up the flank of the gorge from the restored Fayette Station Bridge on Fayette Station Road to the abandon Kaymoor Mine.   (For safety, visitors should not enter any of the abandoned stuctures on the site.)
The hike is about 2 miles long and is considered of moderate difficulty.

Trail information and directions to parking areas can be found online and at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center.  Short hikes are a great way to start off West Virginia family vacations and a great way to stretch your legs after your drive to our West Virginia log cabin rentals. Did you know that WV is within a half day's drive of most of the major cities on the east coast?! That's four hours to "Almost Heaven"!
