Babcock State Park offers its guests 4, 127 acres of serene, yet rugged beauty, a fast flowing trout stream in a boulder-strewn canyon, and mountain vistas to be viewed from several scenic overlooks. All of this variety is located adjacent to the New River Gorge National River in the heart of the whitewater rafting industry.Visitors to the park from late spring through early summer will be treated to a colorful display of wildflowers, most notably the two varieties of rhododendron with which the park abounds. Their blooming season lasts from mid-May through July, with the rhododendron catawbiense, blooming first and the state flower, rhododendron maximum, which is pink, blooming from late June through July.
Built of native sandstone, the rustic administration building offers a good starting point for any tour of the park. In addition to housing the park headquarters, a small gift shop is also located in this building. Directly across the stream from the administration building is a parking lot is the Glade Creek Mill, one of the most photographed spots in the state. From the “Island in the Sky” trail, hikers can get a bird’s eye view of the gorge where the mill and headquarters are located.Recreational Facilities at the Park:

How to get to Babcock State Park:
Located in Fayette county in south central west Virginia, Babcock State Park is easily accessible from Beckley and points south by following US 19 North. At the US route 60 exit travel east 10 miles to state rt. 41 south. Babcock’s campground is 2 miles south of rt. 60 at Clifftop. From Charleston, follow rt. 60 east to rt. 41 south from the east follow I-64 to Sam Black Church exit then follow US rt. 60 west to rt. 41 south.
